Ambient Assisted Living - Call for proposals AAL - 2009 - 3

The objective of the AAL Joint Programme is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The motivation of the new funding activity is in the demographic change and ageing in Europe, which implies not only challenges but also opportunities for the citizens, the social and healthcare systems as well as industry and the European market.

In order to start building Alps Bio Cluster's thematic networks - in this specific case "Autonomy and healthcare" - Alps Bio Cluster would like to promote a partner search amongst Alps Bio Cluster's regions so as to help companies to build a partnership to take part to the call.

MNT (Micro and Nano Technology) ERA NET

MNT-ERA.NET is a large network of European Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) support programmes.
It  was launched in 2004 and during five years (2004-2008) it has been running under the ERA-NET scheme of the 6th EU Framework Programme. MNT-ERA.NET is continuing its activities under the 7th EU Framework Programme until 2011.

MNT-ERA.NET is offering annual Transnational Calls for collaborative projects, reflecting the needs and challenges identified by the European R&D community. As an attractive instrument for supporting transnational R&D it is complementing the portfolio of European funding initiatives.

Proposals submitted to the MNT-ERA.NET Call 2010 will typically be market-oriented and smaller than proposals submitted to the 7th Framework Programme (FP7). They will benefit from accelerated funding decisions.

In this Transnational Call 2010, particular emphasis will be put on, between others, the following applications:

  • Medical and health devices (networked monitoring of health parameters, bio sensors and actuators, bio interfaces, lab on chip)
  • Functionalised interfaces and structures (micro/nano layers and surfaces, micro/nano structured materials, nano particles and powders)

CIP (Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme)- ICT PSP / 4th call open

What is the CIP?

The Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) aims to encourage the competitiveness of European enterprises. With small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as its main target, the programme supports innovation activities (including eco-innovation), provides better access to finance and delivers business support services in the regions. It encourages a better take-up and use of information and communications technologies (ICT) and helps to develop the information society. It also promotes the increased use of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

The Information Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP) aims at
* Developing a single European information space
* Strengthening the European internal market for ICT and ICT-based products and services
* Encouraging innovation through the wider adoption of and investment in ICT
* Developing an inclusive information society and more efficient and effective services in areas of public interest
* Improving of quality of life

The 4th call is now open till the 1st of June 2010 at 17.00 (Brussel local time)

Eureka's Eurostars Programme

EUREKA's Eurostars Programme is the first European funding and support programme to be specifically dedicated to SMEs. Eurostars will stimulate them to lead international collaborative research and innovation projects by easing access to support and funding.

One priority of Alps Bio Cluster is to involve SMEs in collaborative projects. Eureka's Eurostars Programme is a funding which is in accordance with our action.

ARTEMIS JU (Joint Undertaking) - Embedded systems

The vision of ARTEMIS is that embedded systems will realise the dream of ambient intelligence. In which intelligent support for people will be embedded in everyday objects. Large-scale application will increase our quality of life. The result will be to help make life healthier and more secure. And to provide more comfort for Europe's ageing population.

Artemis aims to help European industry consolidate and reinforce its world leadership in embedded computing technologies. The economic impact in terms of jobs and growth is expected to exceed €100 billion over ten years.

The draft annual working programme 2010 has just been published. The subprogramme 2 focuses on the healthcare systems. It aims to establish an overall system approach for healthcare based on an integrated system concept of seamless integration of interoperable components (both devices and services). This will support personalized prevention and treatment strategies by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by new technology.

It is a good opportunity for you, Alps Bio Cluster actors of "Autonomy and Healthcare" network to build collaborative projects.

FP7 Cooperation - ICT / Call open

The specific programme on 'Cooperation' supports all types of research activities carried out by different research bodies in trans-national cooperation and aims to gain or consolidate leadership in key scientific and technology areas.

The Cooperation programme is sub-divided into ten distinct themes. Each theme is operationally autonomous but aims to maintain coherence within the Cooperation Programme and allowing for joint activities cutting across different themes, through, for example, joint calls.

The open call concerns the theme 3, the Information and Communication Technologies. More precisely, the topics called concern :

  • Objective 2.1 "Cognitive Systems and Robotics" of challenge 2, "Cognitive systems, interaction, robotics"
  • Objective 5.3 "Virtual Physiological Human" of challenge 5, "Towards sustainable and personalised healthcare".

For more information on the different challenges of the theme 3, please refer to the working programme.
