Inflammation and Autoimmunity:
Bridging Public and Private Research

November 6th -7th, 2007
Colleretto Giacosa (TO), Italy

An event organized by the tri-national transalpine BioCluster

Turin / Piedmont

Grenoble / Rhône-Alpes

Genève-Fribourg-Neuchâtel-Valais-Vaud / Western Switzerland

The European BioAlpine Convention 2007, an international event organised by the trinational Transalpine Biocluster – Rhône-Alpes (France), Piemonte (Italy) and Western Switzerland – will bring together Researchers and Professionals from Academia and from Industry in order to present and discuss the most recent findings in the field of Inflammation and Autoimmunity.
The partnership between Academia and Industry will be strong and will represent the real focus of the Convention, while the participants will be given the opportunity to get state-of-the-art information, to discuss new projects, to build synergies, exchange best practices and facilitate access to financial, industrial and scientific resources.

Our immune system serves as our body’s defence against bacteria, viruses, and other potential illness causing agents. It is composed of a complex system of cells, organs, and tissues arranged in an elaborate network designed to optimize our body’s response against invasion by the many pathogens we come in contact with every day. Inflammation is generally the body’s first immune response to infection and irritation and is often referred to as the innate cascade.
We would like to be able to think that our immune system could recognize our own body, with all the cells and tissues involved. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and sometimes our immune system attacks our own organs, tissues, and cells causing autoimmune diseases.
Autoimmune diseases are representing a family of more than 80 chronic diseases and while many of these diseases are rare, collectively they affect millions peoples all around the world, and their prevalence is rising. That’s why finding efficient strategies for early diagnosis and autoimmune therapies must become a priority for academy and industry.
According to these statements, the EBAC 2007 both through the brokerage event and through the convention, will offer the opportunity to meet new potential research and industrial partners and to have an overview of the most recent findings in the field of inflammation and autoimmunity.
